We all have a story that we tell ourselves about our personality, our temperament, our behaviour, our past, present and future.
Often that story is full of hurt, pain, regret, anger or blame from our childhood.
Our emotional attachments to outdated stories only serve to keep us stuck in fight or flight (stress), triggered in the present by experiences and memories from the past.
They rarely serve you in feeling free, worthy, lovable and enough to move forward in your life and claim your happiness and health.
Self-awareness is always the first step to changing a pattern.
So what’s the STORY you tell yourself that’s keeping you STUCK?….
I should be stronger so people don’t see my weakness
I’m too much, I need to be smaller/thinner/quieter/in the background
I’m not smart enough to follow my dream of __________
If I quit this job I hate it means I’m admitting I failed
I can’t show my real feelings because then they won’t like me
If I speak my truth and they don’t like it I’ll be criticised, so stay quiet
If I try and fail it only proves I don’t have what it takes
I won’t be able to cope on my own if I leave this toxic relationship
I’m a pig if I eat too much even if I’m really hungry
I can’t stick to/never finish anything so why bother even trying
I can’t do that because my family won’t approve
I want a relationship but look at me, I’m unlovable at this weight
Our stories are often based in FEAR (fight or flight) and they keep us from stepping outside of the pain and finding true freedom and happiness in the present.
What’s that familiar story you know you keep telling yourself or others…?
Bring it to light so you can start to challenge and change this story and break the mental pattern that’s keeping you stuck in self-sabotage.
Is this story really true for me now?
Is it relevant to who I am now?
What experiences can I recall that actually prove this story false?
If that part of the story is false, is it possible that it was all based on fear and not fact?
What is the REAL story then…?
What is my truth now based on this new information and perspective?
Can I let that old story go and embrace this new truth?
